Briefly describe your board culture.

WASI’s board culture is mission-driven, collaborative, and engaged. Board members are deeply committed to supporting the organization’s vision of helping seniors live independently for as long as possible. They bring a diversity of professional backgrounds and community connections, and they actively participate in governance, strategic planning, and resource development. The board fosters open communication, mutual respect, and accountability, creating a strong foundation for effective leadership and organizational growth.

Why is board diversity important to this organization?

Board diversity is essential to WASI because it strengthens our ability to serve a broad and growing population of seniors in the Mat-Su. A diverse board brings a range of perspectives, life experiences, and professional expertise, helping us make more informed, inclusive, and culturally responsive decisions.

As the needs of our community evolve, having board members who reflect different backgrounds, ages, and areas of the community ensures that we remain relevant, equitable, and innovative. Diversity also enhances our credibility, fosters stronger community relationships, and ultimately helps us better fulfill our mission to support seniors in living healthy, independent lives.
