Sitka Trail Works is recruiting a new member of our Board of Directors to guide the organization in an era of growth. Our nonprofit is increasingly stepping in to build and maintain the trail system in Sitka and on the Tongass National Forest, while continuing our commitment to a summer youth program aimed at cultivating Indigenous stewardship. We’re seeking individuals who are ready to roll up their sleeves and support in budget development, fundraising, program evaluation, and helping connect Sitkans with the outdoors. Volunteer board members meet monthly as a whole and dig into the details in smaller teams, working closely with the executive director.
Board of Directors: Voluntary, legal governing body of a nonprofit.
Sitka Trail Works provides for the health of the community through the development, maintenance and promotion of a comprehensive trail system. We seek to reduce barriers to the outdoors for all so that everyone can reap the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of healthy time outside. We are community driven in all we do, working in partnerships and across boundaries to efficiently create sustainable infrastructure and programming.
Our engaged and active board participates at all levels in the organization, from governance and budget oversight, to leading hikes and volunteer events. We celebrate different perspectives because new ideas help us grow. Monthly board lunches are a friendly and welcoming space where all input is encouraged.
Sitka Trail Works was established to uplift the health of our whole community. We advance projects, programming, and policies that connect all Sitkans with the physical, mental, cultural, and spiritual benefits of life outdoors. To ensure that we can serve our community as best as possible while benefiting the greatest number of Sitkans, we are committed to celebrating diversity, advancing equity, and fostering inclusion.
This commitment encompasses our board and staff team, workplace, volunteer program, youth program, hikes, and events. We strive to foster spaces where people of all identities and backgrounds feel welcome, respected, supported, and valued. We focus on reducing and eliminating barriers that have historically existed and continue to impede universal access to the outdoors. Embracing a greater array of life experiences, talents, perspectives, and individual differences in the people who work, volunteer, and engage with Sitka Trail Works is key to successfully delivering our mission.
