Board of Directors

NAMI Anchorage is recruiting Board Members!  Must be 19 years of age, reside in the Municipality of Anchorage and be passionate about ending the stigma that surrounds mental health.

 

NAMI Anchorage and its directors have expectations of each board member.  The following is a general overview:

Have an interest in peer driven consumer issues and a commitment to furthering the Mission (to provide support, education and advocacy for individuals affected by mental illness, their families friends and community members) of NAMI Anchorage

Be committed to continued development of a culturally competent program

Listen and communicate actively with other directors and our consumers

Be active, sober, punctual and serious participants during all board meetings, committee sessions and trainings

Assume a proportionate share of the work and assignments of the board

Respect and support the majority decision of the board

Serve on at least one committee of the board (if created)

Recognize that all authority is vested in the board when it meets in legal session and that individual board members have no authority either in or outside of a meeting unless delegated by the board

Be available the 3rd Tuesday of each month for our monthly board meeting

Be ready and willing to donate to the organization in a meaningful way – ours is a 100% giving board

Understand that this is a 3 year term

Our board has a very laid back culture, not very high stress. We are all very accepting and understanding


Why is board diversity important to this organization?

Mental illness affects everyone, regardless of ethnicity, culture, socioeconomic or any other type of classification we could put people into and it is vitally important that we understand all the different ways mental illness presents and the unique challenges it poses to different sectors of the populations
