Briefly describe your board culture.

JAMM’s board culture is welcoming, respectful, and open to new perspectives. Board members engage in thoughtful discussion and care deeply about the organization’s mission of providing free, high-quality music education to Juneau youth. The board values listening, learning, and creating space for different viewpoints while supporting the long-term health of the program and the students it serves.

Why is board diversity important to this organization?

JAMM serves students from across Juneau’s schools and strives to reflect the diversity of the community it serves. A diverse board brings broader perspectives, stronger community relationships, and more informed decision-making. Because JAMM is committed to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive programming, including partnerships with Indigenous communities, so it is important that board leadership reflects a range of backgrounds, experiences, and voices.
