VP of Finance

POSITION CONCEPT:
Responsible to the Council President for developing and leading a volunteer-driven structure that ensures the council’s financial health and sustainability. This role oversees implementation of the council’s overall finance strategy in support of its strategic plan and ensures the council maintains the fiscal capacity necessary to deliver a quality Scouting program to youth.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Accept accountability for ensuring the council meets its fiscal capacity goals and remains financially stable.
2. Assist the Council President and Scout Executive in maintaining strong relationships with all United Way partners through coordination with the United Way Relationships Chair.
3. Provide oversight of the council’s overall fiscal strategy, including:
   • Conducting regular Finance Committee meetings
   • Recruiting and supporting subcommittee chairs for Investments, Budget, and Compensation & Benefits
   • Coaching and guiding subcommittee chairs to ensure effective leadership
   • Collaborating with the Treasurer and Vice President of Fund Development on financial operations and policy recommendations
4. Lead consistent meetings with the Finance Committee to track progress on budgetary, membership, and program goals outlined in the council’s annual and strategic plans.
5. Provide leadership in monthly reviews of the council’s financial performance, with a focus on key indicators:
   • Operating Net
   • Cash Flow
   • Accumulated Debt
   • Revenue Generation
6. Regularly assess financial performance of key departments—such as camping operations, Scout shops, and district activities—against budget targets and historical trends.
7. Maintain and communicate the financial policies of the Boy Scouts of America to board members, volunteers, and staff to ensure compliance and consistency.

Keep the Executive Board informed on financial trends, challenges, achievements, and opportunities relevant to the council’s funding and overall financial health.
