The Family Promise Mat-Su Board of Directors serves to help families in crisis overcome unique challenges and to achieve lasting independence. Your skills, experience, ideas, and insight will help guide our financial stability, empowering our families and creating powerful initiatives in our community.
Family Promise's mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. Our core values focus on empowering families experiencing homelessness to achieve sustainable independence through a compassionate, community-based approach. Key values include partnership (community-driven solutions), empathy (treating families with dignity and respect), empowerment (fostering independence), equity (addressing systemic barriers), and hospitality.
Key pillars of their approach include:
Community-Based Solutions: Engaging local volunteers and congregations to provide shelter, meals, and support.
Preventive Action: Focusing on homelessness prevention and, when necessary, rapid rehousing to minimize trauma.
Holistic Support: Providing personalized care, including case management, financial literacy, and transportation assistance.
Inclusivity & Equity: Commitment to being an anti-racist organization that ensures all families have access to housing.
Sustainability: Supporting families to achieve lasting stability rather than just temporary shelter.
These values drive the organization's mission to keep families together and ensure every child has a home.
Our board consists of males and females between the ages of 45 and 65. One board member has lived homelessness experience. Our Board comprises of mix-race, white, and Hispanic origins. We have representatives from the housing, finance, faith, business owner, and prevention professions, providing our board with a variety of perspectives when reviewing and cultivating policies that align with our mission and core values.
Board diversity is important to our organization as it represents the diversity of our guest families. Singles with children, married and unmarried couples with children, grandparents with custody of their grandchildren, biracial, handicapped, veterans, and LGBTQ+ represent the many families we have served, and our Board's diversity provides an unbiased example of those we serve in our community.
