Cyrano’s Theatre Company is a 34-year-old theater company with deep roots in the community. Our core purpose is creating transformative theater, always with the aim of inspiring a connected community and high quality of life. Our core values are Passion, Artistry, Intention, and Community. Cyrano’s is powered by a staff of four – two fulltime and one parttime – and contracts with a range of artists to produce six shows each year that include drama, musicals, and comedy, as well as an annual children’s production that introduces children to professional theater and the performing arts.
We currently have a 6-member Board of Directors that meets ten times each year. Current board members bring diverse skills and backgrounds and each is actively engaged on a committee or task force. Cyrano’s board members commit to the following
Attend as many of the plays as possible to show support of the mission to our team and the community
Attend monthly and special board meetings unless excused by the board president
Read the materials sent to the board and come prepared to board and committee meetings
Become sufficiently knowledgeable about Cyrano’s and its operations to make informed decisions
Read and understand the financial reports
Serve on one board committee
Make an annual personal gift commensurate with my ability
Participate in establishing organizational policies, strategies, goals and objectives
Assist the ED and board president in identifying and recruiting other qualified board members
Actively work towards those decisions and solutions that are in the organization’s best interests
Respect the confidentiality of the board’s business
Act as an ambassador of Cyrano’s in the broader Anchorage and Alaska community
Board of Directors: Voluntary, legal governing body of a nonprofit.

Our board has built a team culture through regular meetings and periodic in-person retreats to refresh and renew our values and review and develop new strategies to achieve our vision. Though most of our monthly meetings are by Zoom, they're very participative and guided by a foundation of respect and open communication with everyone contributing their unique perspectives knowledge, and creative ideas. There's also plenty of laughter!
Cyrano's serves the very diverse community of Anchorage, and our purpose and vision focuses on transformational theatre that inspires connected community. Central to that is having a board that represents the diversity of our community, a group that brings diverse perspectives to all the key decisions that boards must make around vision, direction, strategy, financial health, fundraising and donor cultivation. A diverse board gives us connections to different segments of the community and fosters innovative and creative thinking to address whatever opportunities and challenges arise. Our audience is currently not very diverse - it tends toward an older, white, middle-to-upper-income demographic. We'd like to recruit new members to the board who could help us reach into and engage other segments of our community.
