Why is board diversity important to this organization?

KTNA’s mission is to enrich and connect the communities of the Upper Susitna Valley through informational and cultural programming. We intend to provide programming that represents the diversity of our community, including gender, age, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, national origin, and economic status. We intend to reflect the Public Media Code of Integrity, including that we will: “pursue fairness and responsiveness in content and services, with particular attention to reflecting diversity of demography, culture, and beliefs.” We intend to project a welcoming atmosphere to all and seek staff, board members, Community Advisory Board members, on-air DJs, and volunteers based on their experience, interests, and skills.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Diversity Eligibility Criteria requires public media organizations to adopt formal goals for diversity and to report annually on steps taken to work toward those goals. These actions are required for all stations receiving Community Service Grant funds.

Accordingly, Talkeetna Community Radio has set the following diversity goals:
• To provide equal opportunity in employment.
• To seek candidates for KTNA’s Board of Directors and Community Advisory Board that represent the diversity of the upper Susitna Valley communities that we serve.
