PIC Job Description for Board Members
Roles and responsibilities:
- Define and oversee the mission of this agency and keep it relevant to the needs of our community
- Approve programs and services and monitor their effectiveness
- Provide strategic guidance to the organization and the chief executive officer
- Ensure financial solvency and help raise resources
- Select, support, and evaluate the chief executive officer
- Ensure continuous board improvement
As a member of this board, I commit to:
- Attending 4 board meetings per year
- Participating in the board’s strategic planning
- Participating in at least one board training/planning event and an annual evaluation to identify ways in which our board can improve its performance
- Serving on one board committee (standing or ad hoc)
- Making an annual monetary gift to the agency
- Holding this agency to a high standard of performance and actively helping to make this a world class organization
- Understanding my roles and responsibilities and becoming sufficiently knowledgeable about our agency and its operations to make informed decisions
- Reading the materials sent to the board and coming prepared to board and committee meetings
- Arriving at meetings on time and staying for the full agenda unless I have otherwise notified the board or committee chair
- Asking for clarification on any matters or material that I do not understand before making a decision
- Listening carefully to other board members and staff with an open mind and an objective perspective
- Actively working towards those decisions and solutions that are in the organization’s best interests (speaking with one voice)
- Respecting the confidentiality of the board’s business
PIC Board of Directors meet using Zoom and when possible, in person, meeting at the PIC office at 161 Klevin Street, Suite 103 in Anchorage, AK.
Board meetings are the second Thursday of September, November, January, March, and May from 5:00-7:00.

Why is board diversity important to this organization?
It is important that PIC make decisions based on diverse backgrounds and experiences. Each person/member has a story to share and experiences that are their own. This helps PIC make decisions that include all perspectives.

All board members are expected give a monetary gift to the agency in a way that is meaningful to them annually.
Are travel expenses related to board service reimbursed? If so explain.
PIC serves children/families in the Lake Iliamna region. When we have a board member from that region on the board, PIC pays for transportation for our one in-person board meeting a year.
Is there any additional information you would like prospective board members to know?
We encourage individuals who have had children who have received early intervention services through PIC or another Early Intervention program to apply.
