Current Position Description

Board of Directos

Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce

About the Role

Serving on the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is an opportunity to be involved in our local business community and help guide the direction of the Chamber.

Our board is made up of people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives who share an interest in seeing Palmer and its business community thrive. Board members work together to provide direction, support the work of the Chamber, and make decisions that are in the best interest of our members and the organization.

As a Board Member, You Will

  • Attend board meetings and come prepared to participate in the conversation.
  • Help set goals and priorities for the Chamber and keep those goals moving forward.
  • Listen to our members and bring their ideas, concerns, and needs to the board.
  • Review Chamber finances and help ensure the organization remains financially strong.
  • Support the Executive Director and provide guidance and feedback while allowing staff to manage the day-to-day operations of the Chamber.
  • Attend Chamber events when you can and take the time to connect with our members.
  • Be an ambassador for the Chamber in the community and help others understand who we are and what we do.
  • Share your experience, ideas, and connections to help create opportunities for the Chamber and our members.
  • Help build relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, government, and other community partners.
  • Participate in committees, projects, or Chamber initiatives where your interests and experience are a good fit.
  • Respect confidentiality and support the decisions of the board.

What We Hope You Bring

You don’t need to know everything about Chamber work to serve on the board. We want people who care about Palmer, are interested in our business community, and are willing to participate.

A strong board member asks questions, shares ideas, listens to different perspectives, and follows through on commitments. Each director brings something different to the board, whether that is business experience, community connections, leadership skills, a new perspective, or simply a willingness to get involved.

Board and Staff

The board’s role is to provide direction and oversight, not to manage the day-to-day work of the Chamber. The Executive Director is responsible for Chamber operations and works with the board to carry out its goals and priorities.

A good relationship between the board and Executive Director is built on communication, trust, clear expectations, and a shared understanding of where the Chamber is headed.

Our Commitment

We want serving on the Palmer Chamber Board to be a worthwhile experience. Board members should have the opportunity to learn more about our community, build relationships, contribute their experience, and have a voice in the future of the Chamber.

Most importantly, we are looking for people who care about our members and want to work together to help the Chamber and Palmer’s business community continue to grow and move forward.

Our board is a group of local business and community leaders who care about Palmer and want to see our business community succeed. We have open conversations, value different perspectives, and work through decisions together. Why is board diversity important to this organization?

Our members represent many different businesses, industries, backgrounds, and experiences, and we want our board to reflect that.
