We are a small, non-profit community library located in Ester, Alaska. We are governed by a 5-7 member board of directors led by the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
The board president is responsible for leading a diverse group of people (the Board), representing the board’s interests when it comes to legal matters, overseeing the Treasurer and monthly reconciling the financial books, planning for and chairing monthly board meetings, organizing board members and occasionally volunteer workers, and organizing 2 major long-standing fundraisers during the year. Although you are the head of the organization, you are not expected to run everything, but rather to seek the input and guidance of the rest of the Board and implement those decisions along with the rest of the Board.
Structure: The Board of Directors runs the library. There is no head librarian or other paid staff members. All staffing (both on a regular and irregular basis) is community volunteers or Board Members. We host several different groups most days of the week in addition to being a depository of books.
The ideal candidate will be a fun-loving person who is organized and can effectively lead a diverse group of people by mentoring, training and collaborating with other Board Members to implement strategies to better serve the people of Ester. Additionally, the candidate should possess an innovative mind to come up with solutions to our biggest issue: attracting people to our facility.
Board of Directors: Voluntary, legal governing body of a nonprofit.
Our mission is to provide books, technology and resources, such as a seed library and family activities, for the betterment of the Ester community. We also collect and preserve local history, organize programs, and provide a meeting space for eclectic groups, which fosters learning, discussion, creativity, and engagement. In addition, the Ester Village Library mission is to build a new landmark library that not only meets the highest standards of sustainability and design but also serves as a hub for creativity and connection.
We are a fun-loving group that focuses on providing a community space and books for area residents. We do not discriminate on the basis of sex, religion, race, age, disability or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
We believe diversity brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences to the board. It also reflects the status and structure of the community.
