Board of Directors, Member at Large

Individual Board Member’s Duties: 

  1. Attend all board meetings and activities, including special events and board retreats.
  2. Become knowledgeable about the organization by reading by-laws, policies & procedures, and applicable onboarding materials.
  3. Come to board meetings well prepared and well informed about issues on the agenda. 
  4. Review agendas and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings. 
  5. Contribute to meetings by expressing your point of view. 
  6. Represent organization to individuals, the public and other organizations with one voice. 
  7. Consider other points of view, make constructive suggestions, and help the board make decisions that benefit those who the organization serves. 
  8. Support the organization with work on a committee
  9. Keep the board and administrative staff informed about any concerns the community has.

The Southcentral Alaska Association for the Education of Young Children (SCA_AEYC) promotes high-quality learning for all children, birth through age 8, by connecting practice, policy, and research. We advance a diverse, dynamic early childhood profession and support all who care for, educate, and work on behalf of young children.


Briefly describe your board culture.

Our board is made up of early childhood educators from across Southcentral Alaska, as well as community members who are invested in supporting this field. The board is energetic, dedicated, and eager. This group is looking to grow the organization and support early childhood education is inovative ways. They are seeking new ideas and creative input.


Why is board diversity important to this organization?

A diverse board is important to SCA_AEYC because it allows us to develop and implement programs that are accessible, functional, and meaningful to the diverse population we support. A board that is diverse in a variety of ways would accuratly represent this field and allow us to be more impactful in our mission
