Mission / Core Purpose / Core Values

At Sacred Valley Health, our core purpose is improving health by empowering promotoras. We believe that by empowering promotoras, or community health workers, to become agents of change in their communities, we can see improved health outcomes in the communities where we work in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
Core Values:
Empowerment, education, collaboration, cultural competency, access, equity.

Briefly describe your board culture.

Our board culture is rooted in collaboration, humility, equity, and shared purpose. We are a mission-driven group that values thoughtful dialogue, diverse perspectives, and mutual respect.

We strive to create a space where:
Community voice leads – We center the knowledge and leadership of the communities we serve.
Everyone contributes – We recognize and value each member’s unique background, whether in global health, community organizing, finance, or lived experience.
Learning is ongoing – We engage with curiosity, cultural humility, and a willingness to grow—both individually and as a board.
Decisions are made collectively – We operate with transparency and trust, honoring both data and community wisdom in our governance.

Why is board diversity important to this organization?

At Sacred Valley Health (Ayni Wasi), we are deeply committed to health equity in rural, Quechua-speaking communities of Peru. To fulfill this mission with integrity and effectiveness, we believe that a diverse and inclusive Board of Directors is essential.

Diversity on our board helps us:
-Reflect the communities we serve. Inclusive leadership ensures that our strategies and priorities are grounded in the lived experiences of Indigenous and rural populations.
-Make better decisions. A range of perspectives—across culture, profession, gender, geography, and language—helps us navigate complex challenges with creativity, humility, and cultural awareness.
-Advance health equity and justice. We aim to model the values of equity, inclusion, and accountability in our governance, not just our programming.
-Strengthen sustainability and trust. Diverse boards are more resilient, more connected to community partners, and better equipped to inspire donor and stakeholder confidence.
