Mat-Su Advisory Board
The member of the Mat-Su YMCA Advisory Board provides strategic guidance, support and community insights to help grow YMCA programs and presence in the Mat-Su Valley. Advisory Board members are expected to bring their expertise, networks and passion for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility to advance the mission of the YMCA.
Key Responsibilities
- Advisory Role: Offer advice and recommendations on strategic initiatives, program and policies that align with the YMCA mission. Act as a sounding board for the Mat-Su YMCA Branch Director and the CEO of the YMCA of Alaska.
- Community Engagement: Represent the YMCA in the community, promoting its mission and programs. Foster relationships with local leaders, organizations and potential partners.
- Fundraising Support: Assist in identifying potential funding sources and promoting fundraising initiatives. Participate in fundraising events and campaigns as needed.
- Advocacy: Advocate for the YMCA’s interests at the local and regional levels. Help raise awareness of the YMCA impact and programs within the community. Help support specific initiatives.
- Meetings and Participation: Attend regular advisory board meetings and participate actively in discussions.

- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
- Willingness to engage in fundraising and community outreach efforts.
- Willing to be part of growing an organization into a contributing partner in the Mat-Su Valley.

As a growing organization in the Mat-Su, raising funds to help cover operating costs as programs grow is essential. All members are expected to contribute in a meaningful way and to actively participate in fundraising activities.

Is there any additional information you would like prospective board members to know?
The Mat-Su YMCA volunteers started their efforts over 15 years ago with the first summer camp programs beginning in 2018. The YMCA now has a school age childcare site, summer day camp and swim lesson programs. The long-range goal is to continue to grow programs and the development of a full facility YMCA to serve the Mat-Su Valley.
